Mr Aloke Lohia
August 7, 2025 7:10 amAs founder and Group CEO of Indorama Ventures PCL, Aloke Lohia transformed the company over three decades through his entrepreneurial leadership from a family-owned niche business in Thailand to a global leader in chemicals spearheading growth, innovation, and sustainability.
Aloke founded the company in 1994 as a small, worsted wool producer in Thailand. He soon set his ambition on expanding regionally and globally by acquiring PET and polyester fibers businesses. In 2010, Aloke listed Indorama Ventures on the Stock Exchange of Thailand as a global leader in PET manufacturing. Today, Bangkok-based Indorama Ventures is among the world’s Top 30 chemical companies.
In the past decade, he has expanded the company’s footprint to 31 countries, doubled EBITDA to over $2.4 billion, and quadrupled the number of employees to about 25,000. He achieved this by integrating astute acquisitions to create market-leading positions in Asia, Africa, and Europe; and more recently by expanding the company’s footprint in additional growth markets through acquisitions in the Americas. Indorama Ventures’ diversified business generated $15.4 billion in sales in 2024, including applications serving customers in food and beverages, hygiene, mobility, lifestyle, agriculture, and other industries.
In 2022, Aloke received the prestigious Petrochemical Heritage Award from the Science History Institute in the U.S., recognizing his contribution to the chemical industry over three decades and Indorama Ventures’ journey as an industry leader in sustainability. In 2024, he was ranked 20th in the Top 40 Power Players list by leading industry publication Independent Commodity Intelligence Services (ICIS). In this year, he was also honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the India-Thai Chamber of Commerce (ITCC) in recognition of his exceptional contributions to Thailand’s economic growth and prominence as an inspirational business and community leader.
Under Vision 2030, Aloke is leading the transformation of Indorama Ventures as a future-ready, purpose-led company, including driving the digitalization of its global operations, developing the next-generation of leaders, and introducing bio-based and recyclable feedstock to the company’s diverse portfolio of products.
Aloke was born in 1958 in Calcutta, India. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Delhi and holds an Honorary Doctoral Degree of Business Administration from Rajamangala University of Technology in Thailand as well an Honorary Doctorate in Science from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.
Aloke is married to Suchitra Lohia, who has co-led Indorama Ventures since inception. They reside in Bangkok, Thailand with their three children, Aradhana, Yash, and Anuj, who actively participate in managing the company. His strong family values and the company’s family-based origins remain at the center of Indorama Ventures as a purpose-led sustainable leader in petrochemicals.
